From Courtney Curtis..."This year was my first year at state show. I won first place in AA 16 and under poles 1 and was in the match races. Anna Hernandez and her horse Sam were also in the match races and came in 2nd place for AA and won AA senior division saddle!! Bailey Merrick won the A pony division saddle on his pony Twix. Roquel Merrick was in many match races and came very close to winning the saddle. Dianna Malley also was in many match races and came close to the saddle. Brayden Merrick did great on his pony Camo too. All of district 4 did great and we all had an awesome time at state show."

From Ellen Carr..."Well another great State show just completed in Hollister, Dist 4 was well represented and every rider has a wonderful tale to tell.  Jeff rode his nice horse Yancey and ran several AAA's, no buckles just lots of fun, I actually beat him in several events with my new mare Rainey, that's right she ran a few AAA's.  The camping was wonderful with time shared with friends and fellow riders. Joan Higgins showed up and rode her cute mare Big Red and enjoyed the experience that she hadn't done for  9 years, her son Blake video it all and enjoyed the dance and fun also."

Catherine King is really excited that her horse King received his first-ever AAA times, one in single stake and one in hurry scurry.

From Chrystal Moore..."Well Taaron's horse Oreo went lame the first day so he was looking forward to rescue race and thank goodness Taaron and I came in Second place overall...We made Match races, not bad for the first time ever doing rescue race... Taaron got back at camp and Said "that just made my whole state show".  I had bad and good days but turned out wonderful as I finished third overall. I won some jackpot money for quads and figure 8 stake, I'm the champion in the + division for those. To top off my state I made several match races but I actually won Birangle!!! I walked away with $580!  It was so much fun and I'm very proud of Dist 4!!!"

From Joan Higgins..."I had a ball!"

From Danielle McCants..."This was my first state show with CGA.  Me and my mare, Mandy, had a lot of fun.  We brought home a Reserve Champion title in AA 16 and under and won buckles for Barrels, Quadrangle and Speed Ball."

From Spring Krogue..."I didn't ride this year, but my husband and I came down on Sunday to watch everyone...and wow, what an awesome job everyone from District 4 did, congratulations to each and every one of you for a job well done.  I hope that your memories will last a lifetime!"

From Bev Hampton..."I attended the first weekend of the 2008 CGA State show to attend the Board of Directors meeting as the District 4 delegate and support the district working the Poles 1 event on Saturday at Setups and Sunday during the normal show.

District 4 had a great turn out this year at the state show.  We had riders of every age and divisions it seems.  The main day our district had to work was on Sunday for the Poles 1 event in Arena 1.  We had several judges, Dianna Merrick, Ellen Carr, Joanie Higgins, Cindy Williamson, Tina Chechourka and myself helping out.  Announcing and writing times we had Tina Chechourka, Spring Krogue and myself.  Laurie King worked one of the time writer jobs the entire time and the other was shared by Juliett Primeau, Laura Curtiss, Karen Bidou and Donna Neth.  At the gate we had Matt Mazza, Karen Bidou, Tim King who worked a couple shifts at the gate for us.  We also had the Sam and Sam team…. Samantha Krimsky who was just there supporting her friends this year and  Tina’s nephew Sam who is just out here visiting for a while.  We had a slew of folks out throughout the day helping in the arena setting poles.  We started the day with Leon Lemen and Ricky Kapachinski then they were relieved with Belle Malley and Bailey Merrick who were relieved by Matt Malley and Aaron Hampton.  We wrapped up the event with Roquel Merrick, Shelby Burchell along with their male friends who I don’t recall the names!  I also saw Cindy Williamson out helping in the arena along with Chrystal Moore’s mother.  There were several others willing to help but with the re-ride of hurry scurry some of our riders did not get finished in time to come out and help.  I thank you all for your help and I am sure there is one or two of you that I forgot to mention as this is totally from memory so please don’t be offended my thanks go out to you all whether mentioned or not!!  It was really great to see such a great group of people come together to help out!  We did our traditional District 4 workers spaghetti dinner that evening.  The dinner was prepared by Anna & Dave Hernandez, Laura Curtiss and Bev Hampton.  There was plenty of food to go around but as Julliett found out, we were cooking and cleaning right on time to make it to the match races that night!   I got to enjoy watching several of our riders in match races that night before Aaron and I took off to head home.  No winners that night but I believe every one enjoyed the fun!

I am hopeful my back will hold out and I will be back to riding soon so I can plan to attend the full week next year.  Just a reminder to everyone that the state awards are presented at convention in November.  You can sign up now for your 2008/2009 award season and get an early start on earning next years awards!"

From Dianna Malley..."Well our camp was wonderful and the week was great.  Dist 4 was well represented.  Many new faces in match races.  Jessica Howes and Taylor Neth. My favorite was running a supreme in poles one and running match races against my daughter.  Seeing Anna Hernandez and Tricia Kash in match races was great.  Bailey took Twix finally and did good and Brayden bumped out of his division and was happy about that.  Belle Malley had a great time and rode team events with Courtney Curtis."
