January newspaper article- District 4

(This article was supposed to be published in the ‘World of Gymkhana’ newspaper, January edition, however did not make it to the printer in time. Enjoy!)

January 2017

Welcome to winter! It’s been raining cats and dogs here and if you didn’t own a pair of rain boots before, chances are you do now! We’ve been getting our fair share of rain and while we always need the water, it sure does put a damper on our riding plans. No shows in December, but we have had some new and exciting things going on around D4.

CONVENTION! Congratulations to all our year end award winners. Everyone worked so hard to earn their buckles, bracelets tack and jackets. We had many, many folks this year representing D4 proudly at convention including our very own Marissa Mullins, earning her Hall of Fame buckle and jacket. So proud of you Marissa!

Of course, convention isn’t all about the glitz and glam of awards, but also hosts one of the most important meetings of the year. Many new and important ideas were heard as well as some new rules and regulations changing effective 1/1/2017. If you didn’t have the chance to attend the meeting at convention and learn about all the new changes first hand, be sure to continue to read your monthly newspaper, check the CGA website and check with your club level officers and board. They should all have the new information handy and possibly be distributing some information to all members at a club level.

December 10, we held our annual ‘Year End Awards Celebration and Holiday Party’ for D4 at the beautiful Canedo home in Vacaville. HUGE thank you to Tony, Laura, Erika and Brianna Canedo for allowing us all into your home and being such wonderful hosts.

Each year we hold a canned food drive along with a toy drive at our year end awards celebration and this year was the biggest and best yet. We had SO MANY canned foods and SO MANY toys that it took quite a few trips back and forth to load it all up. We even had the Vacaville Fire Department bring a fire truck out to collect our donations. They were so thankful for the load of goods and they even stayed and had dinner with us. We love our Fire men and women!

Toni DeHerrera was in charge of the silent auction for her 2nd year in a row and boy did she do a wonderful job! We had so many awesome awards auctioned off and in true D4 style, raised over $900 in one night, to go towards our 2016-2017 year end awards fund. We’re already off to a great start!

The year end awards were FANTASTIC! Chosen, personalized and processed by Spring Krogue and Anna Hernandez, choosing wonderful Cactus tack. THANK YOU, ladies, for all your hard work and the awards were the best yet. What an opportunity afforded to all our members, to pay such a nominal fee to enter the year end awards program and earn such awesome prizes, just for showing up and riding at the place you were already going to anyways! I believe there were only 2 persons signed up, that didn’t earn an award. This was only due to not riding enough shows to qualify. EVERY other person that signed up, earned an award. WOW! Awards were given down to 5th place in each division INLCUDING pony and AAA+ as follows:

Our winter show season is going to be a bit different than we’ve done in the past, having one ‘weekend long’ show per month, including Friday set-ups (weather and help permitting).

Our winter show schedule is as follows:

January 7 & 8, 2017- Sugarland Horse Park, Woodland, CA.

February 4 & 5, 2017- Sugarland Horse Park, Woodland, CA

March 11 & 12, 2017- Sugarland Horse Park, Woodland, CA

Be sure to plan on spending the weekend with us so mark your calendars now! There are stalls available or you may bring portables. Come and ride 3 days and then take the rest of the month off, or travel to other districts if you’ve been unable to do so in the past. We feel this new schedule will give our workers and riders a much-needed break from the traditional ‘every other weekend’ schedule we run during the spring and summer as well as allow us to spend the evenings camping with horsey friends. It’s a win-win for everyone!

Hope to see you all this winter at our Woodland arena and as always, ride fast, ride hard, stay dry and wear your helmets!

Year End Awards Celebration & Holiday Party- December 10, 2016

Mark your calendar folks, for our annual ‘Year End Award Celebration & Holiday Party’ held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 6 pm. An email will be going out soon detailing the event schedule. A few reminders:

*Please be sure to bring an unwrapped, un-opened toy for either a girl, boy or gender neutral for our toy drive.

*Please be sure to bring  un-opened, canned or non perishable food items for our food drive.

As in years past, we will be having the fire department stop by with a fire truck, to collect our donations.

Depending on your last name, you’ll be expected to bring either an appetizer, a side dish or a dessert item. The breakdown of alphabet will be included in the email, so you know which category you fall into.

Lastly, be sure to also bring some cash as we will have a raffle and silent auction, fundraising for our club. Last year, the silent auction was AMAZING, raising well over our expected amount. Each year our club does so well in our fundraising efforts so lets keep the ball rolling!

If you’re interested in donating an item for our silent auction, please contact Toni DeHerrera at rookietld@aol.com.
