Our June 21, 2008 horse show was
sponsored by Cannon Constructors and Anna & David Hernandez. Thank you
for sponsoring our show. We had about 50 riders and we started a bit
early to beat the heat. The temperature was well over 100 degrees.
The Hernandez family helped Dianna
Merrick prep the arena the night before and couldn’t believe how hard
and the hours it takes to prep the arena. Dave Hernandez learned how
to operate the tractor while Anna learned how to water the arena at
the same time. Rocky was able to show Tricia how to fill the tanker up
and hopefully Tricia remembers. My hats goes out to the Merrick
family, Timmi Lemen and the Rosenbergers for doing this for our shows.
Hopefully in the near future we will have our own watering system.
Anna Hernandez was our Show Manager
for this show and had asked Dianna Merrick for help. Thank goodness
because Dianna had the show moving right along. Dianna, thank you so
much for all the help you provided and making the show run quick and
smooth. And thanks for getting us out of their early. We were able to
run three set ups and end the show on time. Thank you to those who
helped with the setups.
It might have been the first time in
history, but we seemed to have plenty of judges out there helping.
Most everyone only had to judge ˝ of the event which worked out really
well because it was just so hot. Our judges were Dianna Merrick, Ellen
Carr, Tina Chechourka, Carla Olsen, Barb Stocking, Bev Hampton, Cindy
Williamson, Spring Krogue, Jason Krogue and even some out of town
judges, Lisa Bradley, Sally Rivera-Lindgafeld, Stacey Rivera and the
gals from District 49 (sorry I don’t know your names and don’t have
the list while I am writing this, but thank you).
We also had two of our apprentice
judges Toni Rosenberger and Matthew Mazza judging all day, thank you
both, you two will make AWESOME judges, thank you.
We would also like to thank everyone
who pitched in and helped work the show, everyone from working in the
arena, writing times, announcing, working the gate, helping in the
kitchen...thank you all. This show is a 100% volunteer show and
it cannot go one without the help of each and every rider, so thank
you again for all of your help and support.
We had some GREAT runs and some
new/old faces that came out to ride with us. Joan Higgins, who has
been busy working, was out and about on her little mare “Big Red”
trying to get rides to qualify for state show. Again we had Bob &
Paula Fritch along with Christy Martin join us out in the heat getting
in their much needed rides for state. Kerry Borges’ work schedule
hasn’t allowed her to join us much over the past year, well she made
up for it by coming and riding TWO horses….she made some awesome runs
on EZ, Sabrina Mullin’s nice mare. Along with Kerry Borges…we also
got Kerry Mullins and his daughter, fun times were had by all! We
missed Timmi Lemen and Shelby Burchell…but we did get to have Derek
Bologna join us, Woohoo! He made some great runs on Firecracker.
Tricia Kash was back on her good mare Roxy, it was nice to see those
two again.
Carla Olsen of Painted Pony Tack and
Lisa Bradley of Bradley Wear were both on hand with their booths set
up, in the heat that we had I give them props for bringing all of
their merchandise and setting up for us to shop, thank you both.
A big thanks goes to the Mazza
Family for pulling together to run the snack shack. They had some
family come out to help. They had donuts, coffee, chicken sandwiches,
cheeseburgers and hot dogs. It was nice to see new faces chipping in
to help with the kitchen. We are still in need of some volunteers to
help with the kitchen. Contact Bev Hampton,
bev_hampton@agilent.com, if you would like to help. You can earn a
free show for working the kitchen.
We had a few riders from other
districts coming out to ride in the heat. It was nice to see new
faces. Circle D gathered some raffle items to raffle off with all the
proceeds going to District 49 (Paradise) due to the fires in their
area and 2 of their members losing their homes. We were able to raise
$124.00. There were some great raffle items. Lisa from Bradley Wear
donated two gift certificates, Ellen Carr and Spring Krogue each
donated a $30.00 gift certificate, Carla Mason with Painted Pony Tack
donated some items. Bev Hampton donated a free show and Anna
Hernandez donated a couple of items. Thank you all for helping us to
support our neighboring district. I believe that we are going to be
holding another fundraiser at our June 29th show as well.
Sponsors for upcoming shows are
needed, if you are interested in sponsoring a show, please contact
Barb Stocking,
bcstocking@aol.com, thanks!
